Overview
Master the art of the fly cast with Jackson Hole's premier instructors. Throughout the course, our team will help you understand the fundamental strategy and technique for casting proficiently, as well as understanding and correcting common mistakes. From the basic pick-up-and-lay-down to the advanced double-haul, we tailor the instruction to match your specific goals.
Beyond the cast, students will learn a variety of knots employed by professional fishing guides, along with basic tricks to increase the speed of their tie time. In addition, we teach the most crucial elements of river safety and emergency techniques to ensure our students have a basic understanding of what to do in dynamic scenarios on the water. Every fly fishing enthusiast leaves the lesson with the peace of mind necessary for their next expedition.
Instruction is impactful and focused, whether you are a first-time caster or an experienced angler looking to refine your technique. We provide all necessary high-quality gear, including rods, reels, and a selection of practice flies suited for the conditions.
The curriculum focuses on the fundamental mechanics of the fly cast, emphasizing loop control, timing, and line management. These lessons are the essential precursor for any of the more technical river floats we offer, and we strongly recommend a session before booking the Salt River or Trophy Trout trips.

Trip Planner
Casting lessons are available year-round, though they peak during the summer months when river conditions are at their best for immediate application. The May through September window allows students to take their newly acquired skills directly to the river during the height of the hatch season.
Guide's Take
Casting is the foundation of everything. You can have the best fly and be on the best water, but if you can't get the fly to the fish with a natural drift, nothing happens. My goal is to get you comfortable with the rod so that you can focus on the fishing, not the casting, when you're out on the drift boat.
