Overview
Float the Snake River from South Park to Alpine — the most productive stretch of cutthroat water in the valley. Drift through deep canyon runs and braided channels in a hand-built drift boat, casting dry flies to native cutthroat trout with the Teton Range filling the horizon behind every bend.
The South Park to Alpine section of the Snake River is where the canyon opens up and the fishing gets serious. This permitted stretch runs through some of the most productive trout habitat in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem — deep runs, gravel bars, and side channels that hold fish year-round.
Your guide matches the approach to the day — nymphing the morning seams below South Park, switching to dry flies as the hatch builds through the canyon, and finishing with hoppers or streamers in the deeper water above Alpine. Every float is different because the river never fishes the same way twice.
Whether you're casting for the first time or chasing a personal best, the South Park to Alpine stretch delivers. Half-day floats cover the upper canyon and are ideal for families and beginners. Full-day trips push deeper into the quieter water where the biggest fish hold.

Trip Planner
The South Park to Alpine section fishes from April through November, but the prime window is July through September when hatches are dense, flows are stable, and cutthroat feed aggressively on the surface.
Guide's Take
South Park to Alpine is the float I never get tired of. The canyon gives you everything — a technical dry fly challenge one pool, an easy hopper drop in the next. There is no stretch on the Snake that teaches the game faster, or rewards patience more.
